We’re a bunch of ordinary people who are learning more about following Jesus and how to do what Jesus said we should do.
Why not come and visit us – we’d love to meet you. Whoever you are – everyone is welcome.
What’s it like at church?
When you arrive at church on a Sunday you can expect to be welcomed by friendly people who’ll be pleased to see you. Inside, you’ll find people of all ages who’ve come together to honour God and learn more about him. None of us are experts, we’re all learning together how to do life Jesus’ way.
Whoever you are, whatever your story is, you will be welcome.
We sing old hymns and modern songs, we pray for each other, for our community and our world, and we spend time looking at a passage from the Bible to learn about God and what he wants for our lives.
Each of our three Sunday gatherings has a different style and ‘feel’, find out more on our services page.
Family is really important to us. We want everyone, from the oldest to the youngest, to be able to find a place to belong here, among supportive, caring people. We have lots of great activities for children and young people of all ages, both on Sundays and during the week. Find out more on our groups pages.
And it’s not just about Sundays! We want to ‘do’ life together, being there for one another and supporting each other through the good times and the bad times. This is very important to us.
We have activities and groups for all ages – click on the links below to find out more.
As a church we want to be fully engaged in working with and supporting our local community on Mutley Plain and the surrounding area. We work with Plymouth City Council and other local agencies, and have several regular activities to support homeless and vulnerable people – check out our Transformational ministry page for more information.
In a nutshell…
Mutley Baptist Church is a member of South West Baptist Association and the Baptist Union of Great Britain. As a Baptist church we subscribe to the Baptist Union’s Declaration of Principle.
Below you can get a very succinct and general overview of some of the key beliefs we are built upon.
We believe that Jesus came to this earth as God in human form, to show us what God is like. If we want to know what God is like, we need to look at Jesus. Our desire is always to see people get to know more about Jesus, and put their faith and trust in him. We believe that Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life” – he is the only way to God.
Sin and Forgiveness
All of us are imperfect people. We all fall short. We believe that when Jesus died on the cross and rose again, he defeated sin and death, and dealt once and for all with the sin problem that we all have. When we trust in him, and live his way, we can find forgiveness, wholeness and new life.
We are an ‘evangelical’ church, which means we believe that the Bible is God’s written word which speaks to us about our lives today. We seek to apply it to every aspect of our lives, and to allow it to change and shape the kind of people that we are.
